GPU Fans Spin Without Lighting or Display Output

Title: Troubleshooting GPU Issues: A Journey to Resolution

When assembling a new PC, encountering unexpected problems can be quite frustrating. Recently, I faced just such a dilemma while building a computer for a friend. Upon powering up the system, I noticed that while the case lights, motherboard, and CPU fan illuminated, the graphics card failed to display anything on the monitor. Additionally, the ‘GIGABYTE’ logo, which should normally light up, remained dark.

For further clarity, the majority of the components were brand new; however, the graphics card was an older one that I had used for about a year. Initially, this led me to assume it might have malfunctioned. To test this theory, I installed the old graphics card into my personal build, where it performed flawlessly—lighting up and transmitting the display to my monitors without any issues.

Determined to resolve the problem, I swapped my GeForce RTX 3080 from my existing setup into my friend’s build, but the situation remained unchanged: the fans whirred, but again, there was no light or signal to the monitor.

At this point, I was puzzled. I had meticulously ensured that every component was installed correctly, and the power supply was more than adequate to handle the load. Additionally, I ruled out the possibility of a faulty monitor by testing it with other systems.

Feeling a bit defeated but not willing to give up, I decided to take action. In a moment of impatience, I chose to purchase a new motherboard and completely rebuilt the system. To my relief, this decision paid off! The new motherboard resolved the issues I had faced, and the system fired up perfectly.

I want to extend my gratitude to everyone who offered support and suggestions throughout this troubleshooting journey. It can be challenging dealing with PC builds, but sometimes taking a bold step, like replacing hardware, is the key to overcoming setbacks. Happy building, everyone!
