Hacker communicates via Notepad, leaving me unsure if they’ve truly left

A Disturbing Encounter: My Unexpected Interaction with a Hacker

I recently experienced a strange event on my computer that left me feeling unsettled and uncertain. While I was working on my device, an unexpected popup appeared in the top left corner of the screen, displaying a simple “:)” and a message that read: “Hello, do not freak out, or shut off your device. I have gained access to this device and just wanted to inform you that I’m removing my access. Please note that I have not tampered with your device. Apologies for the inconvenience.”

Initially, I found the message intriguing but disconcerting. Moments later, I noticed my mouse cursor moving independently toward the Windows Search Bar and then launching the notes application. To my shock, the hacker began typing in real-time, starting with a simple “hello.” I instinctively responded with “WHO IS THIS?”

The individual behind the keyboard claimed that I had downloaded a virus from a game on GameJolt, which facilitated his access and allowed him to see that I was connected to what he referred to as his “panel.” He didn’t elaborate on that much, and before I could gather my thoughts, a popup appeared stating: “Host terminated connection – Client Disconnected.”

The event was jarring, and it made me reflect on previous experiences that might have made me vulnerable to such an encounter. The only incident that came to mind was when I downloaded a seemingly innocuous game that merely altered my desktop background and flashed an eerie popup meant to be entertaining. However, this incident didn’t seem connected to what transpired yesterday.

This unnerving experience has left me questioning my online safety. While the hacker assured me that nothing was compromised, how can one ever truly be certain? I’m sharing this story to raise awareness about potential vulnerabilities and to encourage others to practice safe browsing habits. Stay vigilant, because you never know when you might find yourself in a similarly unsettling situation.
