Has anyone ever come across a black window that isn’t the Command Prompt? (Variation 13)

Unraveling the Mystery of a Curious Black Window

Have you ever stumbled upon a peculiar black window on your screen that isn’t the Command Prompt? I recently experienced this head-scratching phenomenon and thought it might be a useful topic to explore.

At first glance, I mistook it for a dead pixel. However, I quickly realized I could manipulate the window by dragging it with my mouse. A quick look at the Task Manager didn’t reveal anything unusual—everything seemed normal at first. The window resembled a blank Command Prompt but had a transparent quality to it, allowing me to stretch and resize it. Intrigued by its oddity, I took to the Internet for answers. If you’re curious to see what it looked like, here’s a link to the pictures: Weird window – Imgur.

Could this oddity be a sign of malware? Am I at a point where I need to consider a complete Windows reinstall? These were the questions swirling in my mind.

Update on the Situation

After some insightful suggestions from fellow Reddit users, particularly from a commenter named u/Slapbox, I decided to dig deeper using Process Explorer. To my surprise, the elusive black window turned out to be linked to the voice recognition feature of One Dragon Center. This application is primarily used for personalizing RGB lighting for my social media aesthetics on Instagram and Pinterest.

I’m still unsure why this feature manifested as a black window, but it’s a relief to know that a restart confirmed its uninstallation was successful.

A huge thanks to everyone who engaged with my post and offered their support. If you’ve encountered a similar issue or have tips for avoiding such glitches in the future, I would love to hear about your experiences!
