Unraveling the Mystery of a Peculiar Black Window on Windows

Have you ever stumbled upon a strange, black window on your computer that looked a bit like the Command Prompt but wasn’t quite the same? Recently, I had an unusual encounter that left me puzzled and seeking answers from the community.

At first glance, I dismissed it as a potential dead pixel on my monitor. However, when I moved my mouse cursor across the screen, I realized it was something entirely different. This peculiar black window appeared to respond like a text entry field—transparent yet drag-able—adding to my confusion. I immediately checked the Task Manager for any suspicious applications, but everything seemed in order.

Curious to know if anyone else has experienced something similar, I’ve documented my encounter. The window resembled a CMD interface but lacked the usual characteristics. I wasn’t able to share images directly, but I found it necessary to describe this oddity in detail. For those interested, you can view some images here.

The initial question on my mind was whether this might be malware. Should a clean installation of Windows be my next course of action?

Update on the Situation

After seeking advice from the community, someone recommended I try out Process Explorer. Following their suggestion, I discovered that this mysterious black window was, in fact, linked to One Dragon Center’s voice recognition feature. This program is typically used for customizing RGB lighting, which I only activate for social media posts.

Upon realizing the source of the issue, I proceeded to uninstall the application, and a restart confirmed that the troublesome window was gone for good.

I appreciate everyone’s input in helping me identify this strange occurrence. If you ever find yourself facing a similar perplexing window, don’t lose hope—there are solutions out there!
