Seeking Insights: The Information Security Community’s Response to Industry Silence
Hello everyone,
I’m Raphael Satter, a journalist recently involved in uncovering the evolving narrative surrounding SentinelOne and the larger information security industry. In light of the recent tension between the cybersecurity community and the White House, I’m reaching out to gather insights from professionals navigating these turbulent waters.
My co-author and I detailed how industry silence has become noticeable following criticisms directed at Chris Krebs, the former chief of CISA, and his company, SentinelOne. The reactions — or lack thereof — within the cybersecurity sector have sparked a significant amount of conversation, and I’m interested in understanding it on a deeper level.
I would appreciate hearing from those of you in this community about your experiences. Specifically, I’m interested in two key areas:
-
Have you been instructed by your employers to refrain from commenting on social media about this situation, or about the broader implications of figures like Trump and Musk in our industry?
-
Do you feel that any cyber research or disinformation work you are involved in is being held back due to concerns about how it may be perceived by the current administration?
Your input could offer valuable perspectives on the state of our industry during this pivotal time. Thank you for considering sharing your thoughts.
