How Disabling Cortana Eliminated 75% of My Mouse Lag and What Other Solutions Might Resolve the Remaining 25%

Title: Tackling Mouse Lag on Windows: My Journey to a Smoother Experience

After spending countless hours troubleshooting my new P51 ThinkPad, I experienced a significant breakthrough by removing Cortana, which alleviated approximately 75% of the pesky mouse lag I had been grappling with. Unfortunately, I’m still facing challenges with the last quarter of the issue, and I’m eager to explore further solutions.

For over fifty hours, I’ve been at war with my computer, primarily due to frustrating mouse lag that occurs when I navigate Flash-generated slides in Chrome—a crucial task for my daily work. Despite my best efforts, the screen lags while I try to maneuver my mouse within the slides.

I’ve exhausted numerous troubleshooting methods: uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, updating software, and even performing a complete system restore. Despite these efforts, the persistent mouse stutter rears its head every three to five seconds while engaged with the slides, creating a disruptive workflow.

I had heard from some sources that Cortana might be the culprit behind the lag, so I made the decision to disable her. The improvement was noticeable; however, the experience is still not entirely seamless. I have discovered that reducing the size of the working window or scaling down the slides momentarily eliminates the lag, but this is not a viable long-term solution since it hampers visibility and efficiency.

I’m reaching out for any additional suggestions that could help address the remaining lag. Especially, it’s worth noting that outside of the Flash environment, my mouse functions flawlessly. As soon as it interacts with the slides, the stuttering returns.

Update: I truly appreciate everyone who has shared their insights so far. While I’ve tried many recommendations, a perfect resolution continues to elude me. Any new ideas or experiences that could lead to a smoother interaction within the slides would be greatly welcomed!
