Troubleshooting Internet Connectivity Issues: My Frustrating Journey with Tech Support

Experiencing persistent internet connectivity issues can be incredibly frustrating, especially when Tech Support leaves you without answers. Recently, I found myself in just such a predicament, and I wanted to share my experience in hopes of helping others facing similar challenges.

To begin with, I reached out to my Internet Service Provider’s technical support team multiple times—six calls, to be exact. Each time, I reported a series of troubling symptoms, including sudden internet dropouts, high latency when pinging servers, and significant packet loss. Surprisingly, the support representatives seemed unfamiliar with what packet loss even meant, which set the tone for the rest of my interactions.

I am currently using a Huawei HG532E modem with a wired connection. The issues I faced included complete internet outages, as indicated by the Internet and ADSL lights on my modem flickering off repeatedly. High latency became a common concern too, hindering my ability to connect effectively with various servers. After some troubleshooting, I ensured that there was no latency between my PC and modem, and I switched to G.dmt technology in a bid to resolve these issues.

While the change to G.dmt did improve some conditions, it also exacerbated the situation in other ways. My internet would drop out every two to five minutes, with the modem lights shutting off for about 20 seconds—almost as if the modem were rebooting itself. This behavior was not entirely new to me, but it had never been this severe before. Other modulation types I had tried previously indicated similar issues, leaving me feeling stuck without a solution.

Seeking a remedy, I requested to speak with level 2 Tech Support. They assured me a callback within two days, yet that was nearly two weeks ago, and I’m still waiting. Each follow-up seems to push the timeline further, and the entire process has left me exasperated.
