I couldn’t open this gift for 3 years, I finally did

Unboxing Hope: My Journey to Finally Opening a Gifted PC After Three Years

Three years ago, I received a remarkable gift that would change my life, yet it remained unopened due to circumstances beyond my control. This incredible journey began when a generous donor from a community I cherish saw a glimpse of my humble setup back in Syria. They decided to send me their old computer—complete with its original packaging, thermal paste, and extra fans. Another kind soul contributed a 1030 graphics card and an old SSD to complete the ensemble. The icing on the cake was receiving a 3070 graphics card just a couple of weeks ago!

However, after leaving Syria, this treasured PC sat boxed up at a friend’s house for three long years. I grappled with challenging accommodations that limited my ability to access or even power on the computer. Through all the struggles, I found myself dreaming about the moment I would finally unveil this gift. That day has finally arrived.

Now that I’ve managed to retrieve it, I’m on the hunt for a used monitor and a power cable. Fingers crossed that it survived its duration in storage and is ready to power on.

Here Are the Specs:

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-3960X or Intel Core i7-3930K
  • CPU Cooler: Water cooler
  • GPU: Nvidia 3070
  • RAM: Unknown number of sticks, including some DDR3-1600 CL11
  • Motherboard: Asus P9X79 WS
  • SSD: 2 x 240GB

I understand that my setup has some bottlenecks and that it may be considered outdated. However, the beauty of a desktop computer is the potential for upgrades over time, unlike a laptop. I’m hopeful that once my financial situation stabilizes, I’ll have the opportunity to enhance this rig even further. Regardless of the specs, it represents a huge leap forward from my old MX130 laptop GPU.

Now, what to do with the extra CPU? I’ve heard it was a premium product during its launch, but I’m unsure about its current market value. Would it be worth listing on eBay?

Looking ahead, I’m considering launching a Twitch or YouTube channel where I can share my experiences playing nostalgic games I couldn’t access due to my previous lack of a proper graphics card.

In tandem with upgrading my vehicle for an upcoming race, I’m thrilled to be building what will be my first
