I developed a Duolingo-inspired cybersecurity teaching app as part of my master’s thesis

Introducing SecureMind: A Revolutionary App for Learning Cybersecurity

Hello everyone,

I’m excited to share with you my latest project—a groundbreaking iOS application called SecureMind. Designed to educate the general public on the fundamentals of cybersecurity, this app draws inspiration from the engaging learning techniques employed by Duolingo. As part of my master’s thesis, my research focuses on the effectiveness of mobile microlearning in encouraging users to expand their cybersecurity knowledge.

Explore the Features of SecureMind

SecureMind organizes its content into easily navigable chapters and sections, making the learning process straightforward. At the beginning of each chapter, users have the opportunity to assess their existing knowledge. After completing the chapter, a follow-up assessment helps them gauge their progress and improvement. Each section offers concise, informative snippets followed by quizzes to ensure users fully comprehend the material.

To further facilitate long-term retention of knowledge, I’ve included an engaging library feature. Once users finish the first chapter, they unlock access to previously learned content, with the library expanding as they advance through subsequent chapters. Additionally, I share brief updates on the latest cybersecurity news, helping users stay informed about current events in the field.

Engaging Learning Through Gamification

Recognizing that traditional video courses often lack engagement, I’ve incorporated gamification elements into the app to make the learning experience enjoyable. With the Security IQ system, users earn points for learning new concepts, utilizing resources from the library, and reading news articles. As users interact more with the app, their IQ rises; however, consistency is key—if they become inactive, their IQ gradually declines. Users can also collect coins to customize their app experience, including personalized app icons and notification titles.

To ensure the quality of content, I’ve leveraged the Digital Driver’s License (DiFü) framework—an initiative supported by the German government—as a foundation for the app. Additionally, the content has been reviewed by my academic supervisor to ensure accuracy and relevance.

I invite you to download SecureMind and immerse yourself in the world of cybersecurity. Your participation not only enhances your knowledge but also supports my research efforts.
