Streamlining BIOS Configuration for Dell Laptops: Automating the Setup Process

Managing a fleet of 500 Dell laptops is no small task, especially when it comes to configuring BIOS settings before the operating system installation. Recently, I transitioned to the asset management side of our operation and was met with a daunting challenge: setting up each laptop manually in the BIOS. As I watched the previous technician painstakingly navigate through the BIOS settings for each device, I was struck with a realization—there must be a more efficient way to handle this repetitive task.

The standard method involves pressing F12 during startup to access the BIOS and then manually adjusting each setting. Considering we have 500 laptops to prepare for Windows 10, the prospect of doing this by hand prompted me to consider automation solutions.

With my background as a Computer Scientist and familiarity with various programming languages, I am keen on exploring options that could allow me to automate this process effectively. Such tools would need to register a series of keystrokes, followed by timing adjustments to ensure that settings are applied correctly.
