I’m an IT professional, completely stumped by this—can’t crack the code.

Troubleshooting a Misbehaving Nvidia 3060 GPU: Seeking Guidance

As a dedicated IT professional, I often embrace challenges with an analytical mindset. However, I find myself in a perplexing situation that I could use some assistance with. Recently, I purchased a used laptop from my previous employer, which is equipped with an Nvidia 3060 graphics card. For the first two weeks, everything functioned flawlessly, but then, unexpectedly, the GPU ceased to operate.

In an attempt to resolve the issue, I have undertaken several troubleshooting steps, including:

  • Driver Reinstallations: I’ve attempted to reinstall the GPU drivers multiple times.
  • BIOS Updates: I checked for any available BIOS updates and applied them.
  • Reverting Changes: Both BIOS and Windows updates were reverted to earlier versions, hoping this would rectify the situation.
  • Driver Rollbacks: I also tried uninstalling the drivers and restoring older iterations, but to no avail.
  • Operating System Reinstallation: As a last resort, I even reinstalled Windows and reverted it to a previous version.

Despite these measures, the graphics card still appears in Device Manager, yet it remains unrecognized by any applications. If anyone has encountered a similar problem or has any insights into potential solutions, I would greatly appreciate your input. Your expertise could help bring this issue to a resolution and restore the functionality of my laptop’s GPU. Thank you!
