I’m in a Never-Ending Dispute with My Dad About Using CCleaner

The Ongoing Debate Over CCleaner: A Family Tech Conundrum

Maintaining a family computer can often lead to differing opinions about the best software to keep it running smoothly. Recently, I’ve found myself in a recurring disagreement with my dad regarding the use of CCleaner on our shared device.

The computer periodically experiences severe slowdowns—files take ages to open, programs lag or freeze, and sometimes the entire system becomes unresponsive for stretches of time. Whenever I step in to address the issue, my first course of action is to uninstall CCleaner, and lo and behold, the performance instantly rebounds. Tasks resume as normal, and everything seems to work just as it should.

However, if my dad gets to it before I do—or any time afterward—his solution is to reinstall CCleaner, believing it’s the key to cleaning up the hard drive. He has a strong aversion to the built-in maintenance tools, convinced that CCleaner performs a better job at optimizing and cleaning up our system.

Adding to my frustration is the fact that CCleaner has installed its own web browser, which I find a bit intrusive. It seems I’m the only one who feels this way, as my dad hasn’t expressed any concerns.

I am left wondering if there is a way to persuade my parents to move away from CCleaner. I genuinely believe that its presence is detrimental to our computer’s performance, possibly keeping itself relevant through issues it creates.

Does anyone have suggestions for alternative maintenance solutions or strategies for my situation? Your insights would be greatly appreciated, as I navigate this tech standoff with my dad.
