With over 25 years in security and technology, Nick serves as the Chief Security Officer at Kraken, a leading global digital asset exchange. He’s also known for founding SpiderLabs at Trustwave and establishing THOTCON, a prominent hacker conference based in Chicago.

Nick’s journey into the world of technology began at a remarkably young age. At just seven years old, he learned to code on a Timex Sinclair 1000 during the early 1980s. His passion for technology continued to grow as he frequented Chicagoland bulletin board systems (BBS) in the late 80s and early 90s, engaging with the digital world through a Commodore 64 and later an Intel 386 PC running Linux.

His extensive career has seen him make significant contributions across various sectors. Before joining Kraken, he held the position of Chief Security Officer at Uptake, an industrial AI firm. He was also a Vice President of Global Services at Rapid7, a comprehensive cybersecurity organization. Throughout his career, Nick has shared invaluable insights on security breaches, malware, mobile security, and information security trends at notable conferences such as Black Hat, DEF CON, and OWASP. He has advised esteemed organizations, including the Department of Homeland Security, the U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT), Interpol, and the United States Secret Service.
