Discovery of an Unwanted IP Camera on My Network

Recently, while checking the devices connected to my home network, I discovered an unexpected and concerning surprise: an IP surveillance camera linked to my router. After further investigation, I was able to identify its IPv4 and MAC addresses, which led me to trace it back to a camera manufactured in Shenzhen. Intrigued yet uneasy, I attempted to access the camera’s feed but faced difficulties when trying to connect through resources I found online.

This unsettling revelation has left me with a growing concern that my landlord may be monitoring my activities without my consent. The thought of being surveilled in my own home is incredibly distressing, and I am seeking any guidance on how to access the live feed—or, better yet, how to secure my privacy.

Update on My Investigation:

I want to extend my gratitude to everyone who shared their thoughts and advice. I apologize for the delay in providing an update, as I’ve been preoccupied with other commitments. After spending three frustrating days using various tools like Angry IP Scanner, Mapsomething, and VLC, I ultimately decided to discontinue my attempts to access the camera feed. Instead, I opted to block the device from my network to regain some sense of security.

Although I plan to reintroduce the camera to my network at some point, my intention is to methodically switch off different areas of my house one by one to identify its exact location. Additionally, I will employ a trick using my infrared-sensitive phone camera, which might help reveal the presence of the camera in certain areas indoors.

As I navigate this unsettling situation, I hope to regain control over my privacy and ensure that I am no longer subjected to unwanted surveillance. If anyone has further insights or experiences to share, I would greatly appreciate your input. Thank you for your support during this challenging time.
