Troubleshooting a Troubled PC: My Experience with Driver Issues
If you’ve ever faced a situation where your computer seems to malfunction after an update or driver installation, you’re not alone. Recently, I encountered a frustrating issue with my four-and-a-half-year-old custom-built PC. While it had been running smoothly for the past year without any cleaning or maintenance, I suddenly found myself in a predicament that left me questioning the stability of my system.
The trouble began when I attempted to update my NVIDIA graphics driver. After downloading the latest version, my PC became unresponsive when I tried to shut it down. The only way to regain control was to restart it using the power button on the tower. Unfortunately, this action led to a black screen accompanied by a spinning loading cursor that didn’t seem to progress.
In an attempt to remedy the situation, I reverted to a previous restore point. Fortunately, my PC booted up, but not without consequences. I noticed a significant drop in gaming performance, and to make matters worse, my GPU fans began emitting an unusual noise. They would not operate until I launched a game, leading to further concern about the hardware.
In my quest for a solution, I decided to reinstall the NVIDIA drivers manually and performed an update of my Windows 11 operating system. However, despite my efforts, I was met with the same troubling issue.
At this point, I find myself uncertain about the state of my PC. Did I inadvertently cause irreparable damage, or is there a simpler fix that I may have overlooked? Should I consider resetting the system entirely to regain its former performance?
