Ask Me Anything: Insights on Cryptocurrency Security with Nick Percoco
Hello, everyone! My name is Nick Percoco, and I have dedicated over 25 years to the fields of cybersecurity and technology. Currently, I serve as the Chief Security Officer at Kraken, a leading global cryptocurrency exchange, where I manage Security, IT, and Engineering teams.
My journey in the tech world began at a young age, cultivating a passion for coding on a Timex Sinclair 1000 when I was just seven years old. Throughout the 80s and 90s, I immersed myself in the vibrant Chicagoland bulletin board systems, starting with a Commodore 64 and later embracing the power of an Intel 386 PC running Linux.
Before my tenure at Kraken, I held the position of Chief Security Officer at Uptake, an industrial AI firm, and served as Vice President of Global Services at Rapid7, a renowned cybersecurity company. My expertise spans a wide array of topics including security breaches, malware threats, mobile security, and industry trends, which I have shared at prestigious events such as Black Hat, DEF CON, and OWASP, as well as with private organizations like the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the United States Secret Service.
In addition to my professional experiences, I am well-known for my involvement in the Chicago hacker community. I founded THOTCON, one of the city’s prominent hacker conferences, which will be celebrating its 12th event later this year. Throughout my career, I have also been engaged in investigating some of the most significant data breaches in history while focusing on enhancing Kraken’s defenses against cyber threats.
I invite you to ask me anything regarding my experiences in cryptocurrency security, best practices for safeguarding digital assets, or insights into current cybersecurity challenges.
I look forward to sharing my knowledge and answering your questions!
Feel free to reach out and stay tuned for more updates as I engage with your inquiries throughout the day.
