Having founded SpiderLabs at Trustwave, as well as the renowned THOTCON hacker conference in Chicago, Nick has devoted his career to enhancing our understanding of cybersecurity, particularly in the context of cryptocurrency. His comprehensive knowledge encompasses security breaches, malware, mobile security, and the latest trends in information security (InfoSec).

Before taking on his role at Kraken, Nick served as the CSO at Uptake, an innovative industrial AI company, and held the position of Vice President of Global Services at Rapid7, a well-respected cybersecurity firm. Throughout his journey, he has shared his expertise at prominent conferences such as Black Hat, DEF CON, and OWASP, engaging with various prestigious organizations including the Department of Homeland Security, US-CERT, Interpol, and the United States Secret Service.

Nick’s fascination with technology began in his childhood. By the age of 7, he was already coding on the Timex Sinclair 1000, and he actively participated in the vibrant Chicagoland Bulletin Board System (BBS) community in the late 80s and early 90s using a Commodore 64 and an Intel 386 PC running Linux.

A proud member of the Chicago hacker scene for decades, Nick has played a pivotal role in shaping it, particularly through the organization of THOTCON, which is set to host its 12th conference in 2023. His contributions to the field extend to investigating some of the most significant data breaches in history. Over the past four years at Kraken, Nick has been instrumental in developing robust security programs to protect the cryptocurrency exchange from potential threats.
