Navigating the Unknown: Inheriting a Company and Its Confounding Website
In the complex journey of stepping into a new role, a sudden inheritance can present unexpected challenges. Recently, I found myself in the unique position of inheriting a small company after the passing of my boss. While I am grateful for the opportunity, I am also feeling slightly overwhelmed by the responsibilities that come with managing the website.
The first hurdle I encountered was accessing the backend of the company’s website. I possess a selection of passwords and some helpful leads, but my technical expertise is quite limited. The crucial first step, I believe, is to determine the platform on which the website was built.
After attempting to utilize various tools designed to identify content management systems (CMS), I met with frustration; none provided any meaningful results. The site itself is not particularly attractive, leading me to suspect that it might not be built on user-friendly platforms like WordPress or Wix. Instead, it appears to be a creation of my boss’s own HTML prowess.
While I do have a foundational understanding of HTML, I am struggling to discover how to access the editing area of this custom-built site. In familiar platforms like Wix, you would simply log in through their website. However, I’m left pondering where to input my boss’s login credentials to make the necessary edits.
As I navigate this uncharted territory, I am keen to connect with others who may have faced similar situations or who can offer guidance on accessing and managing a bespoke website. Any insights into this process would be greatly appreciated and could help me transform this daunting task into a manageable one!
