Troubleshooting SSD Boot Issues: A Personal Experience
Recently, I upgraded my computer by adding a new SSD and installing a fresh operating system, removing the previous OS files in the process. For the first three days, everything worked seamlessly. However, on the fourth day, I encountered an unexpected problem: my PC refused to boot.
The error message displayed was “required device not found.” Despite trying various recovery options, including attempts to access recovery mode, the situation did not improve. By utilizing the Command Prompt from a bootable USB, I navigated to DiskPart, where I discovered that although the disk was marked as online, the partitions were offline. This raised numerous questions as to how this could occur.
In a bid to resolve the issue urgently—I had minimal data to recover—I ultimately made the decision to wipe the SSD, convert it to GPT format, and reinstall Windows from scratch.
Specifications:
- Device: Dell G3 3579
- SSD: WD NVMe M.2 SSD
Upon further inspection using DiskPart, I noted that while the disk remained online, both partitions were still listed as offline. They were in good health, yet something had caused them to become unrecognized by the system.
What Could Have Gone Wrong?
The preliminary consensus among online forums suggested that the SSD might have become disconnected unintentionally, leading to the partitions being dismounted, although the exact cause remains a mystery.
I invite anyone who has experienced similar issues or has insights into this situation to share their thoughts. Understanding the reasons behind such errors is crucial for preventing future occurrences. As a commitment to learning and sharing knowledge, I will keep this post updated with any additional findings or information that might surface.
Thank you for your help!
