Troubleshooting SSD Boot Issues: Insights from My Experience
Recently, I encountered a perplexing problem with my Dell G3 3579 after installing a new WD NVMe M.2 SSD. I had successfully set up a fresh operating system and removed the previous files without any issues. For a brief period of three days, everything functioned flawlessly. However, without warning, my computer suddenly failed to boot, displaying the error message: “Required device not found.”
Curious to understand the root of this issue, I attempted to access recovery mode, but to no avail. Booting from a recovery media and using the Command Prompt through Diskpart revealed an unsettling situation: while the SSD was listed as online, the partitions were not. This raised the question—how could this happen?
In a moment of urgency, given that there wasn’t much critical data on the drive, I opted for a clean slate approach. I decided to erase the SSD, convert it to GPT format, and proceed with a fresh installation of Windows.
Technical Details:
- Device: Dell G3 3579
- SSD: WD NVMe M.2 SSD
As I further explored my predicament, it became clearer that although the disk remained online, the two existing partitions were offline but still labeled as healthy. This contradiction signaled a potential disconnection somewhere along the line, leading to the volumes being dismounted. Unfortunately, the precise reason for this disconnection remains a mystery.
Community Insights:
In discussing this issue with others, the prevailing thought was that a disconnection had likely caused the partitions to go offline. To anyone facing similar challenges, I plan to keep this post updated with any new findings or solutions that may emerge in the future. If you have experienced a similar situation or have insights to share, your input would be greatly appreciated.
By documenting this experience, I hope to shed light on the unexpected challenges that can arise with SSDs and help others navigate similar scenarios with greater awareness. Thank you for your support!
