Is My Father Hacking My Phone? A Disturbing Discovery
I’m reaching out to share a troubling experience and seek some guidance. Although I’m not particularly tech-savvy, I hope my story resonates with others who may have faced similar situations.
I live approximately 40 minutes away from my parents, and recently, my mother has expressed concerns about my father being overly involved in her personal affairs. Today, during a visit, I stumbled upon a questionable USB device (which you can view here). It featured a button and a switch on one side, so out of curiosity, I connected it to my laptop. To my shock, I discovered recordings—not only of my mother but also of conversations I had just that day with her and my sister, as well as a phone call with my boyfriend that took place in another part of the house.
Neither my mother nor I have granted my father any access to our phones—she uses a newer iPhone while I have a Galaxy Note 9. This raises the alarming question: how could he have obtained such information? I’m puzzled by how he could potentially listen in on my conversations at my own home.
While I want to address this issue with my father, I know it could cause tension between him and my mother. In the meantime, I’m looking for advice on how to secure my phone and ensure my privacy.
I truly appreciate any insights, tips, or resources that could help me navigate this unsettling situation. Thank you for your understanding and support.
Update: I hadn’t anticipated the overwhelming response to my post! I’m in the process of reviewing everyone’s advice and will take the necessary steps to address this issue. Thank you all for your kindness and assistance!
