Navigating the Uncharted Waters of Cybersecurity Management
Taking on a new role in a company can often come with unexpected responsibilities. Recently, I found myself in a situation where I was appointed to oversee our organization’s cybersecurity efforts, despite having no formal experience in the field. While my interview had touched on my ability to assist with technology-related tasks, I was unaware that I would be tasked with such a vital component of our operations.
To add to the complexity, our company lacked any existing cybersecurity protocols, and no one had previously held this position. While I am eager to embrace the challenge, I find myself standing at the edge of a learning curve without the requisite training, certifications, or prior experience.
Our organization isn’t currently facing intense scrutiny; however, we anticipate that our exposure will increase in the near future. To prepare for this, we plan to hire a cybersecurity consultant. However, I am determined to ensure we are adequately prepared for their arrival, as I don’t want to present a disorganized front when the expert arrives.
So, where do I begin this journey into cybersecurity management?
Fortunately, the feedback and suggestions I’ve received from others in the field have been invaluable. With the right resources and a proactive approach, I am optimistic that I can navigate this responsibility successfully.
Here’s to embracing the challenge and transforming uncertainty into clarity!
