Unfamiliar Installers on New Company Laptop: What Should You Do?
Recently, I received a Lenovo E490 laptop from my employer, pre-installed with Windows 10. As part of the setup, my previous data was migrated over, and while I appreciate the convenience, it did raise some red flags for me regarding potential security risks.
After configuring Outlook and restarting the device, I was surprised to see several unfamiliar installation windows pop up. These installers had peculiar names such as “petiolule” and “ichor,” which prompted me to investigate further. However, my attempts to find any information online proved futile; it seems Google has yet to catalog these terms appropriately.
This situation is somewhat alarming. Considering that my old drive may have contained malware or other unwanted Software, I can’t help but wonder if these installers are a symptom of that issue carrying over to my new work computer. Should I be worried about the safety and security of my device?
If you’ve ever encountered bizarre installers on a new computer or migrated data from an old drive, I’d love to hear your experiences. What steps did you take? Is there an effective way to determine whether these installations are benign or something to be concerned about?
Thank you for any insights you can share!
