Kaspersky Slowing My Internet by 60%—Speed Returns Immediately When I Close It

Concerns Over Kaspersky’s Impact on Internet Speed: A Personal Experience

In today’s digital landscape, having a reliable antivirus solution is essential for safeguarding our devices, especially when downloading large files. However, my recent experience with Kaspersky has led me to reevaluate my choice in antivirus software due to significant speed issues.

I noticed that Kaspersky was throttling my internet speed by nearly 60%. When I shut down Kaspersky, my speed returned to normal, which raised major red flags for me. As someone who frequently downloads sizable files—a necessity in both personal and professional contexts—I rely heavily on my internet connection. Ironically, these are the times I need robust antivirus protection the most, making it impossible for me to disable the software completely.

Prior to using Kaspersky, I was a dedicated BitDefender user for five years without any such issues. My internet performance remained consistent while all features were actively enabled. Additionally, I tested various other antivirus solutions like McAfee, Norton, and Avira, all of which did not affect my connection speed. It leads me to conclude that the problem lies squarely with Kaspersky, especially since I experienced the same slowdown with its installation on my work computer.

In my efforts to troubleshoot the situation, I systematically disabled Kaspersky’s protection features one by one, but nothing changed. Even when I turned all features off, I did not see an improvement in speed. This was particularly surprising, given my previous experience with BitDefender, which offers similar features without compromising connection quality.

Frustrated with the ongoing issues, I reached out to Kaspersky’s technical support. Unfortunately, their assistance fell short of expectations, resulting in a lack of resolution. To my dismay, they also refused to issue a refund, leaving me dissatisfied with the product.

I must stress that for anyone considering Kaspersky, my experience suggests you should proceed with caution. My intention isn’t to promote BitDefender, but my five years of seamless service have left me regretting my recent switch out of curiosity.

For those who might question whether my connection speed is sufficient, let me clarify: I pay a premium for a high-speed connection that is vital for my work. Having that speed diminished by Kaspersky’s performance issues is simply unacceptable.

If you’ve had similar experiences or have other antivirus suggestions, I would greatly appreciate your input.
