Kaspersky Slowing My Internet Connection by 60%; Speed Restores Once I Exit the Program

Beware of Kaspersky: A Major Internet Slowdown Issue

As an avid internet user facing significant challenges with Kaspersky antivirus, I felt it necessary to share my experience for others who may be considering this software. Recently, I discovered that Kaspersky was throttling my internet speed by a staggering 60%. The moment I shut down the program, my connection returned to normal, highlighting a major issue.

This drastic reduction in speed is particularly concerning for me, as I frequently download large files that demand the full capacity of my internet connection. Ironically, these high-demand moments are when I need robust antivirus protection the most, making it impossible for me to simply disable the software.

Previously, I used Bitdefender and encountered no such issues. My internet speed maintained its integrity throughout my usage, even with all features activated. To further investigate the problem, I conducted tests with other reputable antivirus programs like McAfee, Norton, and Avira, finding that they posed no similar issues. This leads me to believe the fault lies squarely with Kaspersky, particularly since I observed the same slowdown on a work computer after installation.

In an attempt to identify the cause of the slowdown, I methodically disabled Kaspersky’s protection features one by one, expecting to see a change in performance. However, I encountered no discernible improvement, even when all features were turned off. In contrast, Bitdefender demonstrated comparable features without causing any internet speed reduction during my five years of usage.

I reached out to Kaspersky’s technical support, but the experience was disappointing. Despite my thorough troubleshooting efforts, their response was ineffective, and they refused to issue a refund. Consequently, I’m now left with a product that is not meeting my needs.

While I don’t intend to promote any specific software, it’s worth mentioning that my previous experience with Bitdefender was overwhelmingly positive, which is why I opted to try something new—unfortunately, to my detriment.

If you’re considering Kaspersky for your antivirus needs, I would strongly advise you to think twice. There appears to be something off about this software, and I’d welcome any suggestions for alternatives.

Lastly, for those who might dismiss my concerns by saying that a 400 Mbps connection is sufficient, let me clarify: I invest a significant amount of money into this connection due to its critical importance to my work. Having it reduced by 60% due to an antivirus program is simply unacceptable.
