Laptop turns off when unplugged it. And tested with spare batteries.

Troubleshooting a Toshiba Dynabook R732: Powering Issues When Unplugged

Greetings, fellow tech enthusiasts!

Today, I’d like to share my ongoing struggle with my aging yet reliable Toshiba Dynabook R732 laptop. Despite its years of service, I’ve encountered a couple of quirks that have sparked my concern. Recently, an error related to the CMOS battery appeared during startup, prompting a reset of the BIOS settings.

However, the real dilemma surfaces when I disconnect the power cord; the laptop shuts down instantly. Moreover, any attempt to boot it without the power source results in complete silence—it simply won’t turn on.

I want to emphasize that my laptop uses a traditional replaceable battery system. I currently have three spare batteries at my disposal, and after testing each one, I found that they all exhibit the same issue. To ensure they remain in good condition, I’ve been diligent about recharging them monthly to avoid deep discharge.

In addition, I took the precaution of replacing the CMOS battery, as the original had begun to leak. Fortunately, I’ve installed a brand new one, but alas, the power issue persists.

At this point, I’m reaching out to the community for your thoughts or suggestions. Have any of you experienced similar troubles with older laptops? Any helpful insights or solutions would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you for your time and assistance!
