Troubleshooting a Quirky Computer: Seeking Advice on Startup Issues

Recently, I’ve been facing some perplexing issues with my computer, which have only escalated over time. To give some background, roughly three years ago, my machine underwent repairs due to a faulty component installed by a vendor whose name I’d prefer to keep under wraps. Post-repair, I started receiving a persistent “CPU fan error” message, despite the fan running normally and the CPU temperature within standard limits. I chose to navigate into the BIOS to resolve the startup glitch but, in hindsight, I probably should have reached out to the repair team for assistance. Realizing my error, I overlooked it until I stumbled upon another predicament. My Windows installation began to falter, and after some investigation, I concluded that the SSD was at fault. Replacing the SSD provided a brief respite, but it wasn’t long before other technical challenges emerged.

The latest issue revolves around the power button—the computer occasionally refuses to turn on. When this occurs, the power button and supply lights illuminate, and inside the case, everything seems to operate as expected. However, the keyboard and mouse remain unresponsive, and nothing displays on the monitor.

In these instances, I find myself engaging in a bit of a ritual: turning the computer off and on repeatedly, toggling the power supply’s switch, and sometimes even disconnecting everything to check all connections. Interestingly, the connections appear to be intact each time I investigate.

Aside from this bizarre startup behavior, the computer generally runs smoothly. However, I’ve encountered additional gremlins in the system. Switching the HDMI port between my monitor and TV occasionally causes an unexpected restart. Furthermore, even a slight nudge — say, from my knee as I get up — can abruptly power down the machine.
