Lenovo laptop w/ nonfunctional power button; official repair place said nothing I could do – not convinced

Troubleshooting a Lenovo Laptop with a Defunct Power Button: Seeking Solutions

Hello everyone,

I’m reaching out for some advice regarding a persistent issue with my Lenovo Legion 5 Pro. Unfortunately, the power button has stopped functioning altogether, and I’m feeling a bit lost on how to resolve this problem.

Initially, I noticed that the mechanism beneath the keyboard, which engages the power button, had become misaligned. In the past, I was able to fix it by re-positioning the clicker, but now it seems completely unresponsive. I even tried configuring the BIOS settings to allow the laptop to power on when opening the lid, and while this worked temporarily, it has since failed to function again.

I’ve explored the various options my laptop offers for powering on, including USB input, AC power, and the aforementioned lid opening feature. The power jack appears to be operational since the battery charges normally—indicated by the charging light coming on.

To get a professional opinion, I took my laptop to an official Lenovo repair center. To my dismay, they informed me that the only fix would entail replacing the entire motherboard. This leaves me feeling frustrated and unsure, especially considering I’ve come across some methods online that suggest shorting or tripping the power pins might work, but I’m uncertain about trying this on my specific model.

Are there any potential solutions or workarounds that I might not have considered? Or should I accept that I’m essentially out of options? I appreciate any insights or ideas you may have!

Thank you!
