LG UltraGear 5K2K GX9 – The Endgame Monitor! (9950x + 5080/6800XT)

LG UltraGear 5K2K GX9: The Ultimate Monitor Experience

Introduction

In the world of high-performance displays, the LG UltraGear 5K2K GX9 aims to set a new standard. I had the opportunity to test this monitor, provided by LG for review purposes—though they had no influence over my thoughts on its performance. Let’s dive into my observations and experiences with this monitor that is being marketed as a game-changer.

Impressions from the Start

Unboxing the LG UltraGear 45GX950A (GX9) was a promising beginning. The monitor impresses with its quality craftsmanship and sleek design. The front is a vision of minimalism featuring thin bezels, devoid of distractions like logos or RGB lighting, making it suitable for both gaming and professional use. The rear, however, embraces a more characteristic gaming aesthetic, complete with RGB accents.

One standout feature is the anti-glare matte coating. In a setup where my desk faces a window, a glossy screen would present a significant challenge. Thankfully, this display effectively minimizes reflections without compromising clarity. As someone who appreciates matte finishes, I wish similar technology could be applied to other displays in my collection.

Transitioning from an ASUS ROG XG349C, the GX9 has set a new benchmark for me. Initially, the expansive 45-inch screen and the pronounced 800R curve felt overwhelming. However, I quickly found myself appreciating the immersive experience as I adapted to the substantial increase in resolution—5120 x 2160. Text clarity remains sharp, and the vivid blacks of the OLED display take movie watching and gaming to new heights, merging seamlessly with the room’s darkness.

Gaming Performance that Stands Out

While gaming isn’t my primary focus, I do enjoy visually rich open-world games. During my initial run with a Ryzen 9950X and RTX 5080, I experienced stunning graphical fidelity paired with HDR, ray tracing, and DLSS technologies. Titles like Cyberpunk 2077 and Dead Island 2 showcased an incredible level of detail that truly enhanced the gaming experience. The 800R curve contributes significantly to immersion, allowing for smooth frame rates exceeding 100 fps even in demanding scenarios.

After having to return my RTX 5080, I reverted to a 6800XT. While I did notice a dip in performance, I was still able to maintain 70-100+ fps at native resolution on medium to high settings—though
