Seeking Solutions for My Victus Gaming Laptop Dilemma

As a proud owner of a Victus gaming laptop, I recently encountered a frustrating issue that I hope to get some insights on. The touchpad of my laptop abruptly stopped functioning properly, causing it to fail to pop back up when clicked. In a moment of frustration, I attempted a rather ill-advised fix by wedging a knife underneath it while the laptop was still powered on. This misguided move resulted in a small spark and a bit of smoke. Surprisingly, the laptop continued to function well for the remainder of that night, but once the battery drained, it refused to power on again.

Afterwards, I took my device to a local repair shop, where the technician discovered a small burn hole in the battery along with a slightly damaged ribbon cable. He mentioned that he would replace the keyboard, which I assume was connected to the damaged cable, and I opted for a battery replacement since that seemed essential.

Upon picking up the laptop today, I was eager to set it up, only to find that the replacement battery did not fit properly under the cover. Despite being labeled as a compatible replacement with the same voltage, the new battery was both thicker and had different watt-hour specifications. Frustrated but hopeful, I only connected the new battery and did not attempt to power on the laptop. After realizing the cover wouldn’t fit, I decided to run the laptop directly plugged into the wall without the battery. Initially, it performed well for about two minutes before it suddenly clicked and shut off. Now it won’t turn on at all, and there’s no light indication even when plugged in.

The technician at the repair shop speculated that the new battery might have caused some sort of malfunction just by being connected, even without the laptop being powered on. This leaves me wondering: why would the laptop work briefly and then turn off?

To provide some context, I’ve included a photo comparing the original battery (on the bottom) to the newly acquired one (on the top).

If anyone has experienced similar issues or has knowledge on what might have gone wrong, I would greatly appreciate your tips or advice. Thank you!

  1. It sounds like you’ve been through quite a challenging situation with your Victus gaming laptop. Based on what you’ve described, here are some steps and considerations that might help diagnose and resolve the issue:

    • Battery Compatibility: Since the replacement battery you installed differs in dimensions and watt-hour rating, it’s possible that it’s not fully compatible or causing a short circuit, especially if it doesn’t fit properly. Using an incorrect or incompatible battery can lead to electrical issues or prevent the laptop from powering on.
    • Inspect for Damage: Given the previous burn hole and smoke, carefully examine the internal components for any visible damage, burnt components, or loose connections. Pay particular attention to the ribbon cable you mentioned and the area around the battery slot.
    • Check the Power Adapter and Charging Circuit: Verify that your charger is functioning correctly and capable of providing the appropriate voltage and current. Sometimes, a damaged charging port or circuitry can prevent the laptop from turning on.
    • Reset the BIOS/CMOS: Resetting the BIOS might clear any erroneous states. You can typically do this by disconnecting power, removing the battery (if accessible), and holding the power button for 30 seconds, then reinserting the battery and trying to power on again.
    • Disconnect External Power and Remove the Battery: Since the new battery may be causing issues
