Monitor not receiving any signal and now usb ports not working

Troubleshooting a Non-Responsive PC: When Your Monitor and USB Ports Fail to Detect Signals

Building your own PC can be a rewarding experience, but it also comes with its fair share of troubleshooting challenges. Recently, I encountered a frustrating scenario where my custom-built system stopped displaying any output on monitors and ceased to recognize USB devices. In this post, I’ll share my journey through diagnosing and resolving these issues, along with practical tips for others facing similar problems.

The Initial Issue

In June, I assembled my first custom PC, selecting components carefully to ensure compatibility and performance. Initially, the system operated flawlessly, providing a seamless user experience. However, during a gaming session of Peak, my PC suddenly blacked out—likely a crash—and then entered a brief boot loop. After the system finally stabilized, I faced a new problem: no signal was appearing on either of my monitors.

Troubleshooting Efforts

My first steps included standard troubleshooting measures:

  • Swapped GPUs: Replaced my graphics card with a known working one, but the issue persisted.
  • Checked connections: Ensured all cables and power supplies were securely connected.
  • Tested with other monitors: Verified the problem was not display hardware.
  • Browsed for common fixes: Tried resetting BIOS, checking BIOS settings, and reseating RAM modules.

Despite these efforts, the display remained stubbornly blank.

Seeking Professional Help

Eventually, I took my system to a repair shop, where the technician diagnosed a faulty motherboard, citing bent pins—likely from an improper installation—though these were deemed fixable. Based on their assessment, I decided to replace the motherboard myself.

Replacing the Motherboard

I installed a new motherboard, switching from the GIGABYTE A520M K V2 to a GIGABYTE B550M K. After completing the replacement, I powered on the system, but the issues persisted:

  • No display output
  • No detection of USB devices (front and rear ports)
  • Fans and RGB lighting powered on, but no communication via USB

Current Status and Additional Checks

Despite verifying all cable connections and re-seating components, the problems continue. Notably, the system’s RGB lighting and fans work, indicating power delivery, but no output or USB recognition occurs.
