My account has been compromised for over three weeks, and Amazon hasn’t helped me regain control; my posts were even removed from r/Amazon, leaving me at a loss for options.

Title: Battling Unauthorized Access: A Frustrating Experience with Amazon Account Security

In recent weeks, I have been grappling with a distressing issue: unauthorized access to my Amazon account that has persisted for over three weeks. Despite my best efforts to resolve the situation, I find myself in a frustrating cycle that seems to have no end in sight.

For more than 21 days, an unknown individual has been placing orders using my account. While I suspect this may be related to a brushing scam, I cannot be certain. Alarmingly, I have noticed unfamiliar debit and credit cards being linked to my account, along with shipping addresses that are not mine. To top it off, many items ordered with these unidentified cards are being sent directly to my home.

The situation has escalated to a point where I feel increasingly anxious. I have made over five calls to Amazon’s customer service and have had my account locked on two separate occasions. I’ve taken the necessary precautions, including changing my password more than ten times, activating two-factor authentication (2FA) for both my Amazon account and the linked email address, and deauthorizing all devices that were previously connected.

Despite these efforts, my situation remains unchanged. Amazon claims they have “sanitized” my account, yet the unauthorized activity continues unabated. I’m hesitant to close my account, as I have years of order history and considerable rewards accumulated, particularly from setting up baby registries for my children.

As I navigate this perplexing situation, I am at a loss for any further steps to take. If anyone has encountered a similar predicament or has insights on how to effectively address unwanted account access, your advice would be greatly appreciated. I hope to resolve this issue soon and reclaim the security of my personal information.

  1. I’m sorry to hear about the difficulties you’re experiencing with your Amazon account. Unauthorized access can be very distressing, but there are several additional steps you can take to enhance your account security and potentially resolve the issue:

    • Contact Amazon Security Support directly: If regular customer service hasn’t helped, try reaching out to Amazon’s dedicated Account Protection Team via their Contact Us page, selecting the security or account assistance options.
    • Report the issue as an account compromise: Use Amazon’s online form to report suspicious activity and request a thorough review of your account. This can sometimes expedite the process of restoring your account and preventing further unauthorized transactions.
    • Check for account recovery options: Consider performing a full account recovery through Amazon’s security procedures, which may involve identity verification beyond just changing passwords.
    • Monitor your linked email and payment methods: Since you’ve noticed unfamiliar cards and addresses, contact your bank and credit card providers immediately to alert them of potential fraud. They can often block or monitor suspicious transactions related to your accounts.
    • Enhance your device security: Ensure that your devices are free from malware or keyloggers, which could compromise your login credentials. Use reputable antivirus software and consider performing a full system scan.
