Troubleshooting a Quirky Computer: Seeking Solutions for an Unruly Machine

Recently, I’ve encountered some perplexing behavior with my computer that has left me scratching my head. To give you a bit of background, I had my machine repaired about three years ago after being duped into acquiring a counterfeit part from an unknown source. Since then, the system has exhibited some quirky habits. Initially, I was greeted by a persistent “CPU fan error” message, despite the fan operating normally and the CPU maintaining an appropriate temperature. Instead of reaching out to the technicians who handled my repair, I opted to navigate to the BIOS interface and boot up from there—a choice I’m starting to regret.

My troubleshooting journey didn’t end there. Eventually, I discovered that the Windows operating system was failing intermittently, which I traced back to a suspect SSD that I have since replaced. Following that upgrade, things ran smoothly for a while. However, I’m now facing another perplexing issue.

At present, my computer’s power button operates inconsistently. Occasionally, when I attempt to power it on, it seems to come to life—lights illuminate, and the power supply emits its usual sounds, yet my monitor remains dark, and neither my keyboard nor mouse responds.

When this occurs, I find myself in a frustrating cycle of powering the machine down and trying again, engaging in a bit of trial and error. I’ve experimented with multiple attempts of switching the computer off and on, toggling the power supply, and even disconnecting and reconnecting all the components. Strangely, the connections look adequate when I open the case, and yet when I try to power it back up, it sometimes miraculously works again, leaving me baffled.

Moreover, I’ve noticed some oddities when switching the HDMI connection between my monitor and TV; doing so occasionally forces a complete restart of the system. On top of that, if the computer is bumped—say, by my knee when I stand up—it may shut down unexpectedly, which is both alarming and inconvenient.

I’m reaching out for insights or advice on diagnosing and remedying these peculiar problems. If anyone has encountered similar issues or has suggestions on what might be causing this erratic behavior, I would appreciate your input!
