My Computer Ignited Unexpectedly: Uncovering the Cause and Next Steps

A Shocking Incident: My Computer Caught Fire – Seeking Guidance on Next Steps

Recently, I experienced a terrifying incident with my computer that I never thought I would face. While booting up GTTOD on Steam, my gaming session was abruptly interrupted when my monitor went black after just five minutes of play. To my horror, I saw sparks and even flames emerging from behind the graphics card near the PCIe slot. Without hesitation, I turned off my power supply and unplugged everything. Here’s a link to some images showcasing the damage: Damage Gallery.

My Computer Specifications:

  • Motherboard: MSI Gaming Pro Carbon AC
  • Graphics Card: Sapphire Pulse Vega 56
  • Processor: Ryzen 2600
  • RAM: G.Skill Trident Z 3200MHz CL14
  • Power Supply: EVGA G3 750W
  • Operating System: Windows 10

Request for Insights

At this point, I’m trying to piece together what could have gone wrong. All of my components are still under warranty, which gives me some peace of mind. However, I’m concerned that my motherboard and graphics card could be toast.

Do any of you experienced tech enthusiasts have insights on what might have caused this catastrophic failure? More specifically:
– What components might need to be replaced?
– Is it likely that the motherboard caused the GPU to fail, or could it have been the other way around?

I would be grateful for any advice or guidance you can provide before I plunge into the often tedious warranty claims process.

Thank you for your support, and I apologize if this post is a bit haphazard—writing from my mobile device due to my unexpected computer crisis!
