Troubleshooting My Computer’s Quirky Behavior: Seeking Advice
If you’ve ever faced computer issues that seem to escalate in odd ways, you’ll understand my current predicament. After a repair about three years ago, where I unknowingly installed a counterfeit part from an undisclosed retailer, my computer has been anything but reliable.
Initially, it would consistently flash a “CPU fan error,” even though the fan was operational and the CPU temperature remained normal. Instead of reaching out to the repair technicians—something I likely should have done—I opted to navigate to the BIOS to boot. Later, I encountered another hurdle: my Windows operating system began to fail, which I traced back to a suspect SSD. I replaced the SSD, and for a while, everything seemed to be running smoothly.
However, I’ve recently found myself facing a new, perplexing challenge. At times, when I press the power button, my computer will either power on or refuse to do so entirely. When it doesn’t start, the power button lights up as if it’s about to turn on, and the power supply reacts as expected. Nevertheless, the computer fails to boot up; the keyboard and mouse remain unresponsive, and nothing appears on the screen.
On those frustrating occasions when it decides not to start, I often find myself engaging in a ritual of troubleshooting: switching the power off and on, unplugging and replugging, and then attempting to turn the machine back on again. Occasionally, the issue resolves itself after I’ve opened the case and reassured myself that all connections are secure—even though everything appears to be intact.
Moreover, I’ve noticed additional quirks with my setup. For instance, simply switching the HDMI port between my monitor and TV can cause the entire system to restart. Additionally, if I accidentally bump the computer—like when I stand up from my chair—there’s the chance it might shut down completely.
