My Computer Started Acting Oddly — Or Maybe Just More Strange Than Before

Troubleshooting a Capricious Computer: Seeking Advice for My Frustrating Tech Issues

Lately, my computer has been behaving strangely—actually, I’d say it’s been getting increasingly unpredictable. To provide some backstory, I had a troubling experience a few years back when my machine was repaired with faulty parts from a less than reputable source. After finally getting a correct replacement, I noticed some oddities: it consistently displayed a “CPU fan error,” despite the fan running correctly and the CPU temperature appearing normal. Instead of reaching out to the repair shop, I opted to navigate through the BIOS myself, which I now realize may not have been the best approach.

Fast forward to today, and it seems like my tech troubles are far from over. I encountered a new hurdle with Windows itself, which I traced back to a suspect SSD; a quick replacement of the drive helped regain some stability—at least for a while.

Now, I’m facing yet another challenge. My computer has developed a frustrating habit: the power button has become inconsistent. Occasionally, it will power on with no issues, but other times, despite the power light illuminating on both the button and the power supply, it simply won’t boot up. Inside the case, everything appears to be functioning properly, but there’s never any response from my keyboard, mouse, or display.

When this happens, it often requires a tedious process of trial and error—switching the power off and on, toggling the wall outlet, and sometimes even disassembling parts to ensure all connections are secure. Strangely, they seem to be fine every time I check.

Apart from this frustrating power issue, the computer typically runs smoothly. However, I’ve noticed that changing the HDMI connection from my monitor to my TV can cause an unexpected restart. Additionally, even a minor bump (like my knee brushing against it) can lead to a sudden shutdown, alongside the occasional random crash.

I’m reaching out to the community for any insights or solutions. Has anyone experienced similar issues, or can anyone recommend potential fixes? I would greatly appreciate any guidance you could provide.

For those curious, I’ve shared some images and videos of my setup here: Computer Images and Videos. Thank you!
