My Computer Was Hacked While I Was Showering: Unauthorized Access Led to Crypto Wallets Being Opened

Title: How I Encountered a Disturbing Breach of My Computer Security

Recently, I had a startling experience that has left me both shaken and concerned about my online safety. After finishing a shower, I returned to find my computer seemingly possessed. My web browser had spontaneously opened, and to my disbelief, an unknown entity began typing “bitch” into the address bar of Chrome. This individual quickly navigated through folders, eventually zeroing in on my cryptocurrency folder and accessing sites like Coinbase and Binance.

In a state of panic, I attempted to exit the program using the Alt+F4 shortcut, but it proved futile. My mouse seemed unresponsive as well, prompting me to force the shutdown of my computer. The question that raced through my mind was, what should I do next?

Luckily, I reached out for advice and received a plethora of helpful suggestions. In response, I took swift action: I changed all my passwords, unplugged my device to ensure no further access, and performed a clean installation of my operating system. Additionally, I set LastPass to require my password every time I open the browser, and I’ve started using token and authenticator apps for extra security during logins.

For clarification, I do not store any cryptocurrency on my computer; the folder in question merely contained bookmarks to my exchanges. The hacker’s actions seemed deliberate—they typed “bitch,” erased it, and then began sifting through my bookmarks. I opted not to reinstall TeamViewer, especially since many advised against it, considering this possibly being the source of the breach. However, it’s worth noting that my background didn’t turn black, which is usually an indicator of someone taking control of my session, nor was I able to use my mouse or keyboard while this incident unfolded.

Putting my mind at ease, I consulted a tech-savvy friend who is part of a hacker group I trust. He enjoys defending his friends from malicious activity and brings a wealth of knowledge to the table. With his insights, I feel more secure knowing I have a plan moving forward.

This unnerving incident has emphasized the importance of online security and the steps we can take to protect ourselves in this digital age. Always remember to stay vigilant and safeguard your accounts!
