My Headphones Function as Speakers, But the Attachable Microphone Isn’t Recognized – Frustrated While Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting Headset Issues: My Frustrating Experience with the Corsair HS35

Recently, I encountered an incredibly frustrating issue with my new Corsair HS35 headset that I believe many can relate to. After purchasing it as a little treat for myself, I was excited to plug it in and enjoy high-quality audio. However, I was met with a shocking lack of recognition from my laptop, which has left me feeling more than a little exasperated.

Upon connecting the headset for the first time, I was greeted with silence—no notifications indicating that a new audio device had been detected. I quickly navigated to my sound settings, only to find that my laptop was recognizing the headset as a mere speaker. While I could hear audio through the headphones, the built-in microphone of my laptop was still being used for input.

Determined to find a solution, I reinstalled the Realtek audio drivers available on Acer’s website. Initially, this seemed to resolve the issue. My laptop briefly recognized the headset as both headphones and a microphone. However, after completing the driver installation, which required a reboot, the recognition reverted back to only a speaker once again.

This pattern has become a maddening cycle. Whenever I need to use the microphone, I find myself having to uninstall the Realtek driver, restart the computer, and then delay the reboot to make the headset work temporarily. This workaround forces me to repeat the entire process every time I turn off my laptop.

It’s disheartening, particularly since I’ve been relying on uncomfortable earbuds that strain my ears. With finances being tight, I can’t afford to explore new headset options. What was supposed to be a small indulgence has turned into a significant source of stress.

If you’re experiencing similar challenges with your audio setup, know that you’re not alone. I’m sharing this in hopes of finding solutions or perhaps hearing from others who have faced similar dilemmas. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated as I work towards resolving this issue!
