In a surprising turn of events, my Lenovo P51 laptop decided to present me with a frustrating challenge: a severely flickering and distorted monitor. This unwelcome issue struck after I woke my device from sleep today, leaving me unsure of how to proceed.
Despite ensuring that my system is fully updated with the latest Windows 10 patches, the problem persisted even after a standard restart. Fortunately, my second monitor, connected via HDMI, displayed no such issues, which narrowed down the problem to my laptop’s internal screen. In my efforts to document the situation, I attempted to upload a video of the flickering; however, my internet connection faltered, forcing me to resort to sharing a photo instead.
Update on the Situation:
On February 8th, at 4:30 PM PST, I decided to troubleshoot further by booting my laptop into safe mode. Unfortunately, the flickering continued, making it difficult to assess what steps to take next. Even an attempt to uninstall drivers was thwarted due to the visibility issues caused by the distortion.
After holding down the power button for approximately 15 seconds to force a restart, I was greeted by a disheartening sight: the screen flickered again for about five seconds. Then, almost as if by magic, the display resolved itself. I managed to capture the entire process on video, which left me both baffled and somewhat relieved (watch here). The experience raised several questions—what could have caused such a glitch, and how can I prevent it from recurring?
