My mother attempted to “fix” the WiFi issues, but it only made things worse. Looking for advice.

When Tech Troubles Turn into Family Feuds: A WiFi Woes Story

We’ve all faced the frustration that comes with unreliable WiFi, but when you throw in a well-intentioned family member trying to “fix” things, the situation can escalate quickly. Let me share a recent experience involving my mom and an ancient Mac computer—because sometimes, the road to resolution can become a comedy of errors.

For the past couple of days, our WiFi connection has been utterly unreliable. While that’s a challenge on its own, the real chaos began when my mom decided to step in with her trusty—but outdated—2011 Mac, which oddly runs Windows 7. Unsurprisingly, she thought she could handle the situation by performing a system repair; in Czech, this is referred to as “obnova systĂ©mu,” but let’s just call it a system refresh.

As soon as she initiated the repair process, I had a sinking feeling in my stomach. The computer rebooted and started loading files, followed by the dreaded system repair screen. From my experience, this is usually a bad sign, and boy, was I right.

The system repair dragged on for what felt like an eternity, only to conclude with the disappointing message that it couldn’t repair the system—or that, strangely enough, no issue existed. But here’s the catch: there is definitely a problem!

After an endless loop of attempts to fix itself, the computer would simply reset, refusing to let anyone log in or take control of the situation. It was as if the device had entered its own cycle of despair, trapped in a digital purgatory.

So, here I am, seeking wisdom from the digital community: what are my options? How can I bring this aging machine back to life and restore our WiFi functionality without losing my sanity—or my mom’s cherished attempts at home repairs?

If you have any insights, tips, or similar horror stories, please share. This is turning into one family tech saga I won’t forget anytime soon!
