My PC Is being used as a Speedtest.net test node and I don’t know how to remove it

How to Remove Speedtest.net Test Node from Your PC

Introduction

Recently, I encountered a perplexing issue with my PC that I would like to share with you all in hopes of finding a solution. It seems my computer has been mistakenly configured to act as a testing node for Speedtest.net, and I am eager to eliminate this problem entirely.

The Situation

After some investigation, I discovered that my machine is indeed functioning as a Speedtest node. Below are the details that confirm my suspicion:

  • A process named OoklaServer is running in the background.
  • Ports 8080 and 5060 are open, and I am receiving ongoing traffic from external IP addresses.
  • My findings align with the specifics mentioned in the Speedtest.net server documentation.
  • I suspect I may have inadvertently installed Software related to networking or diagnostics that included this feature.

Problems Encountered

This situation is not just inconvenient; it’s affecting my PC’s performance significantly:

  • My bandwidth has been consistently utilized.
  • I am experiencing erratic ping times, even during idle periods.
  • My system resources are being consumed, negatively impacting overall performance.

Steps Taken So Far

In an attempt to resolve this issue, I have taken the following actions:

  • Disabled the suspicious service via Task Manager and the Services app.
  • Uninstalled any unfamiliar applications that were potentially linked to the issue.
  • Closed the relevant ports on my home router to hinder any external connections.
  • Conducted thorough scans using both Malwarebytes and Windows Defender, but no threats were detected.

System Specifications

For context, here are the specifications of my system:

  • Operating System: Windows 10
  • Hardware: Custom-built desktop
  • Network Setup: Standard home router configuration (I have removed any port forwarding entries)

Request for Assistance

I am reaching out to the community for help. If anyone has detailed instructions on how to completely remove all components related to OoklaServer or the Speedtest server setup from my machine, I would greatly appreciate your guidance. Though I am prepared to reinstall Windows if necessary, I hope to find a less drastic solution.

Thank you in advance for your support! Your expertise could make a significant difference in resolving this dilemma.
