Troubleshooting Internet Woes: A Frustrating Experience with My ISP

In today’s digital age, a reliable internet connection is essential. Yet, many of us have faced the frustrations of intermittent connectivity and high latency. Allow me to share my recent ordeal with my Internet Service Provider (ISP) that might resonate with your experiences.

After experiencing frequent disconnections and frustratingly high latency—complete with the dreaded packet loss—I found myself on the phone with my ISP’s tech support a total of six times. However, my conversations were more disheartening than helpful; I was shocked to hear a tech representative respond to my mention of “packet loss” with, “What’s packet loss?” It became abundantly clear that I was not speaking with someone familiar with the issues at hand.

I’m currently using a Huawei HG532e modem with a wired connection, and my troubles have persisted. There are moments when both the Internet and ADSL lights on my modem would turn off completely. High latency has been a persistent issue when pinging any server, further exacerbated by severe packet loss.

In an attempt to remedy this, I ensured that I had no latency between my PC and the modem, and switching to G.dmt mode seemed to alleviate two of my problems. However, it significantly intensified another issue: my internet started disconnecting every 2 to 5 minutes. Each time, the lights on my modem would blink out for about 20 seconds, mimicking a reboot, a scenario I had previously encountered but not to such an extreme degree.

I escalated my issue to Level 2 tech support, and they promised to follow up with me within two days. It’s now been two weeks, and I still find myself waiting. Each time I check in, I’m met with the same response: “Just two more days.” This ongoing cycle of delays and unprofessional communication has left me feeling utterly frustrated.
