Seeking Guidance for Purchasing a Low-End Gaming PC
After experiencing some frustrating issues with my current computer, which seems to turn off unexpectedly, I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s time to invest in a new system. My existing setup, assembled by a friend back in 2016, has served me well but has not seen any upgrades since then.
I’m working with a budget of approximately CAD 1,500. Fortunately, I recently upgraded my monitor just six months ago and have a decent mouse and keyboard, so I’m primarily in need of a new tower. Given that I lack experience in building Computers and have lost contact with my friend who could assist me, I prefer to purchase a pre-built model rather than attempt a custom build.
I’ve encountered some negative reviews regarding retailers like Best Buy, which has led me to consider a reputable local computer store where my parents frequently shopped. They have two models that piqued my interest, although I’m wary due to my parents’ past issues with an Acer model years ago. It’s been quite some time since then, so I’m curious if Acer’s reputation has improved.

In terms of performance, I’m not particularly tech-savvy, but I want a computer capable of playing most newer games at medium settings. I don’t require 4K resolution—my new monitor probably doesn’t support it anyway. Ample storage is important to me, as I frequently faced limitations with my old machine. My gaming preferences lean toward indie titles and strategy games like Planet Zoo, Frostpunk, and Don’t Starve, rather than online multiplayer or first-person shooters.
Additionally, I need Wi-Fi capabilities since I can’t run an Ethernet cable to my desk, and it would be great to find a case that is compact, as space is at a premium in my room.
