Unwanted Surprises After Setting Up a New Company Laptop: What You Need to Know
Recently, I received a new laptop from my employer, specifically a Lenovo E490 running Windows 10. After transferring all the data from my previous device, I assumed I had brought everything over—including some potential malware. However, it wasn’t until I set up Outlook and rebooted the laptop that I was greeted with some unexpected and unfamiliar installation prompts.
Upon logging in, I was met with several pop-up windows featuring strange installation names like “petiolule” and “ichor.” My initial instinct was to turn to Google to uncover the nature of these installers, but to my frustration, I found no information about them—search results yielded no helpful insights, and I was left scratching my head.
This situation has left me wondering: should I be worried? Is it possible that I inadvertently transferred malware or other unwanted software to my new machine?
If you’ve ever encountered a similar scenario, or if you have knowledge about these kinds of installers, your insights would be greatly appreciated. It’s always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to potential security risks on a new device.
Thank you for any guidance you can provide!
