On a call with my VP of global services, and they’re saying the quiet part out loud.

The Unspoken Truth: Labor Practices and Company Culture

In a recent conversation with my Vice President of Global Services, I was struck by a candid revelation that many might hesitate to voice out loud. It became clear that the current strategy involves more than just seeking talent at the lowest cost. There’s a deliberate intention to look for countries where labor protection laws are minimal.

Such an approach raises serious concerns about the implications for employee morale and the overall company culture. When organizations prioritize cost-cutting measures over ethical labor practices, it can foster discontent among existing employees who value a supportive and fair work environment.

It’s disheartening to witness these discussions firsthand. Fortunately, I find myself in the final week of my tenure at this organization, and I’m looking forward to new opportunities where ethical standards and employee well-being are prioritized.

Has anyone else encountered similar conversations in your workplaces? It’s a challenging landscape out there, but I believe that transparency and fairness should be at the heart of every organization. Let’s aim for workplaces that aspire to more than just the bottom line.
