Overcoming Fear: My Journey to Passing the CompTIA Security+ Certification Exam
I recently achieved the exciting milestone of passing the CompTIA Security+ certification exam on my very first attempt, and I want to share my experience to encourage others who may be feeling anxious about it.
For anyone concerned about their readiness for this exam, let me assure you—it was not nearly as daunting as I initially thought. Of course, it’s important to acknowledge that it wasn’t a walk in the park either. A few questions could have been phrased better, but overall, the experience was manageable.
One of my biggest worries was about the simulation questions. I had anticipated they would require me to recall various commands from memory, which added to my hesitation in scheduling the exam. To my surprise, the simulations were not as challenging as I imagined. They resembled more of matching questions or dropdown selections, rather than complex tasks that demanded extensive command-line knowledge.
If you find yourself delaying the exam due to apprehensions, take it from me—don’t psych yourself out like I did. The fear of those simulations was what held me back from taking the plunge earlier.
Here’s my top advice for those preparing for the exam: once you’ve completed your studying, take practice exams and ensure you are consistently passing them. If you come across questions that stump you, skip them for now and mark them for review. Sometimes, the answer to a different question can jog your memory and help illuminate the correct response later. Don’t forget to mark those questions too, so you can easily revisit them at the end of your exam.
I also want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the fantastic members of this community. Your shared insights, resources, and encouragement have been invaluable on my journey into the world of cybersecurity.
Wishing you all the best of luck as you embark on this path!
Edit: A huge thank you to everyone for the kind words and accolades. Your support truly means the world to me—this achievement wouldn’t have been possible without you!
