Reviving a Liquidated Company PC: Can I Turn It into a Media Hub?
Not long ago, I stumbled upon a great deal at a liquidation sale—a seemingly brand new company computer that had been untouched since it was boxed. According to a former employee, this PC was intended for a prospective hire who never joined, after the company unfortunately closed its doors.
The specs of this machine are still pretty impressive for its age, featuring an Intel Core i5 10th Generation 10600 processor, 16GB of RAM, and a 500GB M.2 SSD. Excited by its potential, I decided to enhance its capabilities by swapping the existing SSD for a larger 2TB M.2 SSD and upgrading the RAM with two 32GB sticks of DDR4 2933.
After completing the upgrades, I powered the PC on, and it ran through the initial POST sequence without issues. However, I encountered a significant setback during the Windows 10 installation process. When I reached the step to select the hard drive partition, the new SSD did not appear in the list. This left me wondering: Is there still hope for this machine, or should I cut my losses and move on? I had envisioned transforming it into a media center for my basement living room, and I’m eager to find a way to make that dream a reality.
