Recieving only 100Mbps of download speed instead of 1000Mbps (1Gbps)

Troubleshooting a Download Speed Dilemma: Why Am I Stuck at 100Mbps?

In the world of high-speed internet, it can be frustrating when your setup doesn’t deliver the performance you expect. Recently, I encountered a perplexing issue where my gaming PC was only managing to achieve a download speed of 100Mbps despite being connected to a router that provides 1Gbps (or 1000Mbps) through a CAT6 cable. Interestingly, when I connected the same CAT6 cable to two different laptops, they successfully obtained the desired speed.

Initial Troubleshooting Efforts

Determined to resolve the issue, I dove into a series of troubleshooting steps. I explored the speed and duplex settings, adjusting them to both ‘Auto’ and ‘1Gbps’. Unfortunately, these attempts yielded no improvement. This issue was particularly baffling since everything had worked seamlessly in the past, and I was confident that no significant changes occurred on my end—at least that I could identify.

To further investigate, I decided to format my PC, reinstall Windows, and even uninstall and reinstall the drivers for my motherboard and network interface card (NIC). However, despite these extensive efforts, the problem persisted, leaving me feeling rather despondent.

System Specifications:

  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 3600X
  • GPU: Nvidia RTX 2070
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte X570 GAMING X
  • RAM: 16GB

Update: Compounding Issues

After formatting the PC and performing a fresh Windows installation, I encountered additional complications. The system became increasingly unresponsive, one of my monitors stopped working entirely, and I faced the dreaded black screen with no output upon powering the machine. The power button became unresponsive, making matters more complicated.

With all these technical hurdles adding to my frustration, I decided it was time to consult a professional technician.

Update 2: Professional Help and Ongoing Challenges

Upon visiting the technician, he was able to address several issues I had inadvertently caused, primarily related to improper installation of my M.2 drive, which had created some instability within Windows. Although most of the immediate problems were resolved, the primary issue of receiving only 100Mbps download speed still lingered.

In my conversation with Gigabyte support, they suggested connecting my PC directly to a different computer to test the speed. I plan to conduct this test soon. Additionally, I will attempt to boot the system using
