The Case Against McAfee: Why You Should Uninstall Surefire Antivirus from Your New Laptop
In the realm of technology, especially for those of us who work with Computers daily, there’s a recurring theme that’s worth addressing. Many new laptop users report issues with their devices functioning slowly or mysteriously “not working,” and a significant contributor to these problems is often a poorly chosen antivirus software—specifically, McAfee. After 14 years in IT, I can confidently assert that if you’ve recently purchased a laptop, the first step you should take is to remove McAfee and rely on Windows Defender, which is more than sufficient for everyday use.
Understanding the Root of the Problem
As an IT technician, I’ve encountered numerous complaints regarding computer performance. In a staggering 95% of these cases, the culprit lies within the installed third-party antivirus Software, primarily McAfee or Avast. Why Windows Defender is Enough
Many people mistakenly believe they need a third-party antivirus to stay protected online. Although Avast is notorious for similar practices, at least it allows for somewhat easier uninstallation, even if remnants may remain hidden.
The Struggles of Removal
The uninstallation process for McAfee is notoriously difficult and frustrating. Ideally, you should be able to remove software from your own system with a simple click. However, McAfee employs various obstacles that complicate this process. In most cases, users are met with roadblocks designed to force them into using McAfee’s uninstaller—an arduous task in itself.
When you finally manage to trigger the hidden uninstall function, be prepared for a series of unwanted installations as McAfee attempts to track your data and
