Reviving a Vintage Laptop: A Perfect First Computer for My Child
In a world where technology seems to evolve overnight, it’s remarkable to breathe new life into a 12-year-old laptop. Recently, I undertook the rewarding project of repairing this vintage model and installing Ubuntu, turning it into a fantastic first computer for my four-year-old daughter. With this setup, she will have the opportunity to learn essential skills like typing and writing from an early age.
One of my main goals is to simplify her experience when using the laptop. I am looking for a way to set the computer to boot directly into a text editor. This approach would eliminate the need for her to navigate with the mouse at first, allowing her to focus solely on developing her typing skills. Additionally, I am curious about whether it’s possible to configure the device to automatically start with the Caps Lock key engaged. This small tweak could facilitate her typing practice, making it easier to write without worrying about capitalization.
